Teaching art is my passion. Studio art, specifically pottery, ceramics, and sculpture, but also printmaking, drawing, and painting are the vehicles I use for expression. Until moving into the St. Louis area, I had maintained a functional ceramics studio at my home and occasionally volunteered my time to the neighborhood children during summer break. Through fortune and hard work I have been able to assemble an eclectic collection of skills and experience that will help me to better relate to a wider audience/class to make art making a more fulfilling experience for my students.
In 1996, I graduated from Ringling School of Art and Design, Sarasota, Florida, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Major in printmaking and sculpture. I was also a student assistant in the sculpture and printmaking departments and maintained and repaired sculpture and foundry equipment at the school's studios. I also taught some of the staff and students how to weld aluminum and steel as well as how to incorporate electronic motion and sensing devices in their art.
In 1998, I graduated with a Master of Arts Degree in Art Education from the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida. I was also certified to teach in Florida Public Schools before my relocation to St. Louis. From 1998-2011, for 13 years, I was a 3D Art and Ceramics Teacher at an Adult Education Center in Florida. I taught all phases of low fire ceramics, raku, glazes, and kilns for grades 9-12. I taught sculpture: Clay, mixed media, 3 dimensional concepts, history for grades 9-12. I was also an Art Instructor for evening adult education classes in pottery and sculpture.
