Viking Range

The Viking Range, introduced in 1987, is the first commercial-type range made for home use available on the market. Manufactured by the Viking Range Corporation, the Viking Range is produced in Greenwood, Mississippi, along with the company's other lines of residential appliances and culinary products. Headquartered along the banks of the Yazoo River in downtown Greenwood, the Viking Range Corporation has demonstrated a commitment to the community and the environment. A leading contributor to state and regional charities, the Viking Range Corporation takes an active role in the revitalization and preservation of its hometown.

The offices of the Viking Range Corporation are located in a collection of historic buildings in Greenwood's Cotton Row District. A number of Viking's buildings are over 100 years old, and have been recognized with an historic preservation awards by the Mississippi Heritage Trust and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In addition to receiving awards for the revitalization of its headquarter buildings, the Viking Range Corporation has been recognized for saving the Hotel Irving, now called The Alluvian Hotel, one of the most endangered historic buildings in Mississippi.

In addition to its revitalization efforts, the Viking Range Corporation has contributed to numerous charities, including the local United Way and the March of Dimes Foundation. The company also donated 186 pints of blood to Mississippi Blood Services. The Viking Range Corporation also sponsors a PGA TOUR tournament, the Viking Classic, which raises money for nearly 100 charities in Mississippi.

The Viking Range Corporation also demonstrates a commitment to the community in its production practices. Water discharges from the manufacturing facility are limited and regularly monitored and tested. In addition, the Viking Range Corporation asserts that it uses cleaning processes that prevent the release of hazardous waste. A number of Viking Range products are ENERGY STAR qualified, and the company utilizes recycled stainless steel to manufacture its products. Its commitment to the planet also extends to the home environment. Viking Range Corporation uses powder-coated rolled steel, eliminating emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds.
