Vin Gupta, recognizing the value of education, has made it his mission to give back to the academic community ever since he received his Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Completing his post-graduate education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Vin Gupta received a Master of Science in Engineering and a Master of Business Administration.
Vin Gupta's first investment turned a $100 bank loan into $22,000 in a month, and in less than 40 years, he has turned that money into several hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue through his successful businesses. Vin Gupta uses his largess to support numerous philanthropic and charitable causes. Through his own foundation, the Vinod Gupta Charitable Foundation, Vin Gupta has donated $1 million each to both the Dr. Shanker Dayal Sharma Institute of Democracy and the Dr. Giri Lal Gupta Institute for Public Health, both at the University of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, India. Additionally, Vin Gupta donated over $4 million to Ram Rati Gupta Women's Polytechnic, which was inaugurated by President Bill Clinton. Vin Gupta has also donated over $2 million to the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
In recognition for his contributions to charitable endeavors, Vin Gupta was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Monterey Institute of International Studies and had been appointed a Trustee for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. by President Bill Clinton.
