Elizabeth Kappus

I am a graduate of The State University of New York at Stony Brook with a degree in biology. I was born in Baltimore but grew up on Long Island. A lifelong interest in science comes from a fourth grade teacher who let us dissect frogs. I have published research in microbiology and infectious disease, with an emphasis on tissue culture, from The Johns Hopkins University until 1989. I also met my Husband while working at Johns Hopkins.
After a family move to Pittsburgh, a lack of science education in the public schools where my children attended prompted my interest in education. I received my professional teaching license in Virginia and have been an educator of science and technology with the MathScience Innovation Center for 12 years.
I truly am a life- long learner pursuing various interests leading to certifications in Educational Technology Leadership (GWU 2011), Engineering Fellow (MSiC 2008), and Paralegal Research (1998). Outside of school, I have two grown children that still occupy my time as well as my interest in FIRST robotics and yoga.
