William McCoy

Throughout his career as a military Chaplain and later as an author, William McCoy has prioritized education in a variety of fields. Studying history, apologetics, and law at Simon Greenleaf School of Law in Orange, California, William McCoy began the academic work that would inform his career both as a writer and a Chaplain. Here, William McCoy attained a Master of Arts in Apologetics, graduating with honors in addition to the scholarship he received for his essay on English common law. Before joining the military as a Chaplain in 1990, William McCoy completed a second Master of Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, where he graduated cum laude in the field of Pastoral Studies.

In 1990, William McCoy began active duty in the military as a Chaplain. While deployed overseas, he combined his pastoral work for the soldiers with the pursuit of a doctorate from Université de Strasbourg in Strasbourg, France. In 1992, William McCoy defended his doctoral thesis before a faculty jury at Strasbourg’s Palais universitaire de Strasbourg.

In 2007, after being promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, William McCoy was chosen to attend the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he earned a Master of Strategic Studies. William McCoy utilized his advanced background in hermeneutics, religious phenomenology, and military studies in his duties as a Chaplain and as an educator and lecturer throughout his 20 year tenure in the army. In 2010, he retired from active duty to attend to civilian ministry. Currently, William McCoy resides in South Carolina, where he continues his academic work as an author in addition to pursuing hobbies such as mountain biking, surfing, and sailing.
