At first glance, there are so many things you can learn about a person. For example, you look at me or this website and see my name is Alia, and I have curly hair. Yes, these things are true, but there is always so much more to a person than what’s there on the surface. I am willing to guess that most people would not guess that I am one quarter Korean. My grandfather is a first generation Korean- straight outta Korea. He has very traditional ideals that can sometimes differ from our millennial values, but it’s been a way for me to learn more about a different culture and has instilled some values into me that I hope to pass on to others. His life has been dedicated to working hard in order to better himself, his career, life, and family. Constantly being around this has given me the work ethic and values that I have. It took time and energy on my end, but having that influence was an advantage. He grew up in a very different time, so I teach him about things, whether it be how to function his Ipad or what Twitter is, just as much as he teaches me. I am thankful to have a positive influence like him in my life, to talk with, walk with, and enjoy life with.
