Novelist in Burton upon Trent, United Kingdom
Author of dark tales from the Dark Ages; former History teacher. Fantastic doodler. Fledgling archer.
I was born in Wallasey, Merseyside in the UK and spent my formative years in Liverpool. I now live in Burton-upon-Trent in Staffordshire, which is in the former kingdom of Mercia.
When I was fifteen I produced my first published work and I went on to become a magazine columnist in 1999. In 2005 I trained at the University of Nottingham to be a History teacher.
My historical fiction novels include Gulfyrian, The Dark Garden and Teon, which has just been released. There is also Catnip and Tuck (which is not historical fiction by the way!)
I specialise in the Dark Ages because there is so much that is unknown. To me, that makes it mysterious and ripe for storytelling.
I am married with a daughter, Amanda, and a cat. There is always a cat.
