Hello, I am Alexis Adduono and I am born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario. I am a very active individual and have participated in many sports throughout my life. Some of these sports include hockey, cross country running, volleyball, soccer, and downhill ski racing. I have a red Labrador Retriever named Cooper from a breeder in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

I am someone who is continually making changes in my everyday life to live more sustainably while also being an avid animal lover, which is why I became a vegetarian in 2015.

After high school graduation, I applied to a number of universities and after a tour of the University of Guelph, I knew it was for me.I played competitive soccer throughout high school and was lucky enough to continue to play for my first year of university for the Guelph Gryphons. I enrolled in the honours bachelor of science with a major in biological science. I am currently in my last fourth year and last semester of the program and will be graduating this year. Although I will be finishing this program, I am intending to come back the following semester and continuing my education by taking additional courses.

Growing up, I often found myself looking at Jane Goodall and her contribution to animal conservation. I found it very inspiring to see an individual have so much empathy for wild animals and how one could make such an impact on the way humans view wild animals. The fascination in animals and conservation played a large part in my interest in biology, which is why I applied to biological science. In my first year of university, I envisioned myself going into the veterinarian field, but shortly after I turned towards genetics.

My concentration in genetics has led me to investigate all possible careers that pertain to that field. My career goal now is to continue with the genetics and become a genetic counsellor. I have a passion for helping people and I always want to contribute to society when I have a chance.

An interesting fact that most people may not know about me is that I practice calligraphy and sign language in my spare time. While I was working at my summer job, I had numerous encounters with hearing impaired individuals that communicate through sign language. Because I did not know ASL, I was unable to converse with them unless a pen and paper were around. This made me want to learn ASL as a way to make hearing impaired people feel more comfortable and allow them to communicate with ease.
