Aaron Sachs is Assistant Professor of Media Technologies and Culture at Saint Mary’s College of California where he teaches classes on media production, cultural studies, and food justice. He routinely teaches service learning course that engage students in parterned work in communities ranging from West Oakland to rural Nicaragua. He holds a PhD in Communication Studies from the University of Iowa, and his work focuses on the intersection of media, technology, and culture with a particular concern for issues of race, gender, sexuality, class, and food. He wrote his dissertation on film representations of hip-hop in the 1980s and has published non-fiction narratives about growing up with lesbian moms. Aaron is Chair Emeritus of the Board of Directors at COLAGE, a social justice and leadership development organization focused on building community for people with LGBTQ parents.
