Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Graduate Research Assistant, and PhD Student in Cleveland, Tennessee
I'm a social worker (LCSW), therapist, researcher, and outspoken proponent of social justice. Currently, I am working towards a PhD in Social Work. I have worked in the community mental health field for over a decade in a variety of roles such as group home manager, case manager, applied behavioral analyst, outpatient therapist, and clinical supervisor.
I know that my efforts as a clinical social worker helped individuals and families overcome disparities related to mental health, poverty, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, gender, and education. It is always difficult to be present with clients as they recall the trauma they have endured. Some days are harder to wash off than others. However, I consider it a sacred privilege to bear witness to an individual's vulnerability in order to help them heal. Knowing that I have made a positive difference provides easy comfort.
I am proud to be a social worker, because I know that our profession stands up for and empowers the oppressed and denigrated. As long as disparities exist in our world, social work will have a voice.
