I hold a Bachelor of Sciences (Hons) degree in Biological sciences, and I am passionate about protecting the environment, understanding the problems and helping develop solutions for a sustainable settlement for life on earth. I have 2+ years of experience in climate actions and disaster risk management activities. Currently, I serve as the Disaster Risk Management Coordinator for Freetown City Council, where I focus on developing community preparedness, and disaster response in helping communities adapt and recover in the event of disasters, supporting Freetown’s vulnerable citizens and participating in the city’s transition towards greater sustainability.

My primary responsibility is to coordinate and manage disasters and emergencies if they occur within Freetown. I invest time in understanding hazards and extreme weather events associated with various communities, which serves as a baseline for developing a yearly disaster management plan for the city.

I help develop the capacity of local community volunteers with the knowledge, skill and materials required in building community resilience. And, in case an event that we manage not to prevent occurs, I mobilise a team to respond and do an assessment using the (kobo toolkit) that I develop to capture disaster-affected persons.

Furthermore, I support the sanitation department to develop plans for a healthy city, and I also serve as the monitoring and evaluation officer, to understand heat patterns in Freetown, and raising awareness of extreme heat, and support vulnerable groups, especially women and girls in adapting and reducing their exposure to heat effects.

To this end, I partnered with Anteja ECG - a company based in Slovenia – to help design a circular economy for plastics in Sierra Leone. I worked in a team of three to identify key stakeholders dealing with plastics, including manufacturers, recycling companies, and plastics consumers. I ultimately identified 25 key stakeholders, designed and conducted interviews, and synthesized the findings into a report that will inform the policy-making for recycling in the country..
