Abhinav Mehra
Backer, Builder, and Badger in Singapore
Abhinav comes with a diverse experience in entrepreneurship, venture capital, M&A and corporate finance, working in both financial institutions and multinationals in India and Singapore.
Still a final year student at university, Abhinav began his career as social entrepreneur, co-founding a non-profit called Project Chirag, engaged in solar electrification in rural India. Ensuring a transition to an effective and experienced team, the foundation carries on and continues to light up the lives of rural India.
With a taste of entrepreneurship in his palate he decided to explore working in larger and more streamlined enterprise. Ironically, he interviewed (successfully) at a leading ad agency and the M&A advisory division of EY in Mumbai on the same day.
Eventually, chose the M&A Advisory role and quickly gained momentum within the firm, becoming the only Analyst to be promoted to Associate in less than two years. At the firm he maintained a focus on the consumer sector - with a special interest in retail, FMCG and healthcare.
Moving to Singapore, for his MBA at Singapore Management University he leveraged his skill sets and had a short stint at PwC's Corporate Finance Advisory team.
A newly minted MBA, he was selected for Mondelez International’s future finance leaders program, experiencing the breadth of the finance function in South and Southeast Asia. Completing the program, he was quick to realize that his deep rooted passion for entrepreneurship and longing to once again build something had resurfaced.
Today he is a Vice President at ID Capital, which focuses on venture investments in AgriTech and FoodTech across APAC.
The combination of his past experiences across the agri-food value chain brought him to question the future of food and decide to contribute to this nascent FoodTech revolution.
He spearheaded the organizations initiative - Future Food Asia, which aims not only to propel but bring closer the ecosystem of agritech and foodtech in Asia. The platform provides agri-preneurs and food-preneurs to showcase their technology and business ideas as well as gain early exposure to investors, corporates, industry leaders, mentors and media.
Alongside, he is an small time angel investor in companies across the globe in various sectors including MedTech, AgriTech, e-Commerce and Fantasy Sports.
He is also consulting and mentoring a few start-ups and small enterprises in South East Asia.
