Abi Barquist

I am a student at Skyline High School in Sammamish, Washington with a growing love for writing. I am interested in writing about a variety of topics such as sports, entertainment, and music. As an avid sports fan and varsity athlete, I’ve developed a strong interest in sports journalism within our school as well as professional sports.

The focus of my writing is to inform people on topics that are relevant to my community and leave the reader feeling informed. As a female athlete, one of my main goals is to bring attention to women’s sports and cover the storylines that I want to see more of in the world of sports. Another way I utilize my writing abilities is through opinion pieces backed up heavily by facts and statistics. Additionally, I want to publicize the efforts of the athletes and students at Skyline by producing stories that leave an impact on my community.

Journalism has taught me that there is a story within every event and has constantly informed me of news from around the world. My perspective of the world has changed drastically since I began writing at Skyline and I work to leave the same impression on every viewer that reads my articles.
