I am a new settler on xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ / sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) land from South Africa, with Indian heritage. I have a background in Political Science and Philosophy and during my postgraduate studies, I explored the city-planning, Islamic law and spirituality, user-centred design and decoloniality.

My wide variety of projects and experiences include a Mosque tour of Johannesburg, travelling and teaching English around the world, performing stand-up comedy, co-producing a Palestinian-solidarity album, working for a large multi-national corporation and various research positions within different spheres of government.

In 2015 I founded AwethuArt, a community building platform that nurtures young artists. In 2016 I was an ASRI Future Leaders Fellow and co-founded Muslim Urbanists Joburg.

During my time in Vancouver, I have worked on engagements for the City of Vancouver's Creative City Strategy and co-hosted the RADIUS Fellowship.

I have a Certificate in Dialogue and Civic Engagement from SFU where I now serve as an advisor. I lead Community Engagement Initiatives at the SFU's Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies, work on Deep Democracy and Lightwork coops and serve on the faculty of Inner Activist.

I'm currently exploring how equity and inclusion show up in public engagement work, and the inner skills required for power to shift through my consulting practice Shura Engagement.
