I grew up on a farm in the south of Sweden in Kronobergs County. The third of four siblings, my childhood was predominantly spent riding horses and reading. A longing early on to see more of the world brought me, after finishing high school, to America.

In America I visited relatives in Texas, worked at a catering company in San Francisco and as a nanny on Hawaii. In Honolulu on Waikiki Beach, Mats from Stockholm said to his friend "check out the freckles on that one..." as you might guess that one was me. Mats and I eventually crossed the States in a borrowed car from San Francisco to New York and by then I was convinced that Stockholm would be next.

I started as a junior at an architectural practice on Sodermalm. I fell in love with Stockholm and out of love with Mats. Soon I realised interiors was my passion so managed to wrangle myself into that area ending up working for Rupert Gardner for many years. Rupert was a fantastic mentor and he convinced me to further my studies, hence I applied and was accepted at The Royal College of Art in London to do a Masters in Interior Design.

In London, after a short and sweet marriage to a Swede, another brief encounter changed my life. Peter an Australian lawyer based in London caught my heart and after many turns and changes we married and moved to Australia in 1995 with 2 month old baby David and a Hastens bed.

In 1996 Ellinor was born and so was INNE a Scandinavian furniture showroom I co-founded in Sydney's Woollahra. INNE paved the way to establish myself as an Interior Designer in Australia. Eventually we closed the showroom and opened a full - fledged design practice which since has been rebranded ANNA CARIN Design.

Our youngest son Robert was born in 1999 and my life as a working mother in a foreign country has been an amazing and challenging one. So many faboulus interior projects has come my way and I have just designed a range of rugs for Designer Rugs that will be launched in July 2014, the rugs are based on colours and patterns from my childhood village in Smaland. So in some ways, I am back where I started, a circle has been completed.

My love for both Sweden and Australia has come together in this collaboration and I am very excited to share them with the world. If you would like to see a preview of the rug range send me an email to acm@annacarindesign.com.au. Thank you for your time.
