Mifrah Abid
Podcaster, Teacher, and Community Worker in Kitchener
Hello & Assalam alaykum!
I am the host and co-creator of an interview-based podcast Across Her Table (acrosshertable.com) and we are already in Season 2. We have interviewed many prominent guests so far, with more episodes in the pipeline.
The podcast is about in-depth conversations with remarkable Canadian women with immigrant roots & how they are shaping the social narrative in this country. We hope to tell of their triumphs & struggles and turn the often asked question- ‘Where are you from?’ into a positive exploration of their roots & rich heritage. Women of immigrant roots come from a broad range of ethnicities & races. They are also contributing to diverse fields of work: be it the arts, literature, business, community service, politics, or human rights. By talking to them, we hope to uncover their perspectives & their uniquely Canadian identity.
I work with CMW-KW (Coalition of Muslim Women Kitchener Waterloo) as the Coordinator of their ‘Together Against Islamophobia’ program..
My husband Javed Shaikh (who is also the co-creator and editor of this podcast) and I hope to combine our strengths to tell compelling stories. I bring with me the authentic experience of being an immigrant Muslim woman in Canada. Over the years I have built a network with several impactful women of color. Their stories have a common thread of navigating multiple identities while doing great work. I want to capture this uniquely Canadian blend.
