Adaobi Ugwuonah is a visionary leader on a mission to transform the lives of out-of-school girls in rural communities. As the founder and CEO of Empower Girls Foundation, her goal is to provide these girls with access to high-quality education and life-changing opportunities.
Adaobi's journey as an educator began as a Fellow of Teach for Nigeria, where she served as a dedicated classroom teacher, inspiring young minds and igniting their passion for learning. She later became an alumna of the prestigious Teach for All Global Girls Education and Cross Border Leadership fellowships, gaining valuable insights on girls education in and expanding her reach and impact.
Armed with a Professional Diploma in Education from Tai Solarin College of Education and a Bachelor's degree in English and Literary Studies from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Adaobi combines academic prowess with a fierce determination to make a difference. Her research on "Spelling-Sound Relations in English and its Challenges to Learners of English as a Second Language" sheds light on the critical aspects of language learning.
One of Adaobi's significant accomplishments is the DIGITECH Computer Lab Project, which she initiated in an underserved primary school in Ajura, Ogun State. Through this project, she taught digital literacy skills to pupils and successfully raised funds to provide them with laptops, opening up new possibilities for their education and future prospects.
Adaobi's outstanding contributions have garnered recognition and accolades. She is proud to hold the title of Blackbelt, awarded by 1 Million Teachers for her exceptional dedication to education. She has also received the NsukkaUSA Academic Excellence/Financial Aid Award for her remarkable academic achievements and was recognized as the Best Behaved Graduating Student at St Cyprian's Girls' Secondary School.
To expand her knowledge and skills, Adaobi actively participated in the African Linguistics School (ALS5) at Rhodes University, immersing herself in the rich cultural experiences of South Africa. She further honed her research abilities through a Postgraduate Workshop on Research Writing at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
