A. David Lewis

Graphic novelist, college educator, and comics studies scholar, A. David Lewis holds a Ph.D. in Religion & Literature from Boston University and an M.A. in English Literature from Georgetown University. He started lecturing on comics as well as writing short back-up stories for various anthologies back in 1999 as he graduated from Brandeis University with a B.A. in both English and Psychology. Critically praised for his creative work in independent comics (including the biblical Lone and Level Sands and Some New Kind of Slaughter), Lewis has been featured in The Boston Globe, Publishers Weekly Comics Week, Bostonia and on WAMU's Interfaith Voices, VH-1, and Boston's NPR affiliate WBUR. He is the co-editor of Graven Images: Religion in Comic Books and Graphic Novels (Bloomsbury Academic), Digital Death: Mortality and Beyond in the Online Age (Praeger), and Muslim Superheroes: Comics, Islam, and Representation (Palgrave). He is an Editorial Board Member for The International Journal of Comic Art (IJOCA), a Board Member for NuDay Syria, and author of American Comics, Literary Theory, and Religion: The Superhero Afterlife (Palgrave), a 2015 Eisner Award nomination in the "Best Scholarly/Academic Work" category. He has expanded his scholarship in recent years to include Graphic Medicine, the intersection of comics and health matters, and published Kismet, Man of Fate - Volume 1 in 2018.
