My name is Adeena and I live in Toronto, Ontario. I am twenty-four years old and graduated from the Queen’s University Concurrent Education program. I am qualified to teach in the Primary, Junior, and Intermediate divisions. Last September, I was fortunate enough to have taken over a full year LTO at a private school for a Junior Kindergarten classroom. In addition to that, I have not had much classroom teaching experience aside from my placements from teachers college. I have however volunteered with multiple organizations like Best Buddies, Room to Read and Friday Friends. I was recently accepted to the Toronto District School Board as an OT and am looking forward to supplying more frequently with the hopes of getting my own classroom one day. My interest in teaching ELL stemmed from my travel experiences to both Ethiopia and Israel. Though both trips were on separate occasions, my role as an English teacher was consistent; I was expected to immerse groups of students to an English immersion program over a period of three weeks. It was an incredibly challenging, resourceful, and eye-opening experience and has since kindled my interest in bettering my own education so I can assist others to the best of my ability with their education. I am an avid traveller so I am optimistic that this course will assist me in any future travel plans, whether work-related or not, that I have. I am looking forward to having discussions with everyone throughout this course because from the few years that I have been teaching, I have most certainly learned that everyone has different and unique experiences and ideas to share.
