I am a consultant occupational physician, author, pig-keeper and classic car enthusiast. I have worked full-time in occupational health for 13 years and am the lead medical adviser for diverse organisations ranging from a Police force to FTSE 100 companies.
Unfortunately the actions of doctors - including occupational physicians - often cause needless sickness and disability. This is my key professional interest. The costs to patients and to society are enormous. How and why do they end up participating in systems that promote sickness (the 'Sickness Industry') rather than delivering healthcare, and what can we do about it?
