Artist in Cardiff, United Kingdom
I have been working as a freelance carnival artist in the Cardiff and South Wales arts sector for over 15 years. My most recent roles involved delivering performances, workshops and events with SWICA (South Wales Intercultural Community Arts).
I am creative, ambitious and passionate about carnival arts and have enjoyed working with individuals and groups from a wide variety of backgrounds including other freelance artists, community and school groups, disability-led groups and the community at large.
I specialize in carnival headpiece and large backpack costume making - skills I have developed over the last 15 years with SWICA, first as a volunteer and more recently as Carnival Camp Coordinator. The skills of building structurally sound pieces of art for parade are easily transferable throughout carnival art and I enjoy building costumes and structures from a variety of materials including willow, fiberglass and aluminum. I am especially inspired by finishing costumes and headdresses to a high standard and always take pride in achieving perfect and highly-finished decoration.
