Steve is a Reserve military officer with more than 36 years of combined Regular and Reserve service, and a particular interest in exercises and training. He worked as the Senior Military Advisor to the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre, as a senior instructor in the military diplomacy program, as a defence contractor, a small business owner and an overseas project manager for CANADEM. Steve has lived and worked in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia, in addition to having deployed on military operations to Haiti, Bosnia and Egypt. Steve has extensive experience in developing and delivering training exercises and has taught operational planning to international audiences since 2007. He has successfully commanded a Reserve reconnaissance unit and continues to serve on a part-time basis as the commanding officer of a Highland infantry unit. Steve holds a Bachelor's Degree in Military and Strategic Studies from a Canadian military college and a Master's Degree in Military Arts and Science from the Mubarak Al-Abdullah Joint Command and Staff College in Kuwait. His most recent projects include exercise development work for the African Union, the creation of a workshop on how to design, develop and deliver international training exercises, Security Sector reform work in Libya and a a six-month contract as a planning officer for the UN.
