Dr. Edwin Opare is the President, CEO and Co-Founder of MineNCoin, a Hypertech company in Ghana.
Dr. Opare is also a Partner and Executive Vice President at Gold Empire Resources Ltd. (GERL), a gold mining and trading company in Ghana.
Additionally, Edwin is a Partner at DSS Associates Ghana Ltd, a Ghana-based special purpose company dedicated to the construction and operation of Inland Ports and related infrastructure in Ghana and the rest of Africa.
Dr. Edwin Opare is a member of the Bank of Ghana's eCedi External Stakeholder Advisory Group. The eCedi is Government of Ghana's central bank digital currency (CBDC) project aimed at exploring the feasibility of CBDC issuance and usage in Ghana.
Dr. Opare received his Ph.D. degree in Information and Telecommunication Technology from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea in 2021 with research focus on CBDCs and quantum-resistant distributed ledger technologies.
Dr. Edwin Opare obtained his M.Sc. degree in Information and Telecommunication Technology from KAIST in 2016 and B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering and Information Technology from the Southwest State University, Russia in 2009 respectively.
Prior to joining KAIST, Dr. Opare worked with the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), the IT Regulator in Ghana from 2011 to 2014 in various capacities including CERT Manager and Technical Lead. In his role as CERT Manager, Dr. Edwin Opare led the establishment of Ghana's first computer emergency response team, NITACERT in 2012. In his role as Technical Lead, Dr. Opare led the development of Government of Ghana's official open data platform, DATA.GOV.GH in 2013.
Dr. Edwin Opare was the General Secretary for the Internet Society (ISOC) Ghana Chapter from 2013 to 2014, during which time he contributed to capacity building of ISOC Ghana members in Internet Governance and Internet Standards Development.
Dr. Opare has been involved with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) through ISOC since 2012. ICANN 47 in Durban, South Africa in July 2013 was his first ICANN conference. He was an ICANN Fellow at the ICANN 48 conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina in November 2013 and ICANN 50 conference in London, United Kingdom in June 2014.
Dr. Opare was an Internet Engineering Taskforce (IETF) Fellow at the IETF 88 meeting in Vancouver, Canada in November 2013 and the IETF 97 meeting in Seoul, South Korea in November 2016.
