Afua S. Owusu
Journalist, Writer, and Social Media Manager in Chicago, Illinois
My name is pronounced Uh-fee-yah Oh-Woo-sue. It may or may not mean "Supremely Awesome in Every Way"...
I'm the Executive Producer of The Jam TV Show in Chicago. Working in such a fast-paced environment has given me the superhuman ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and projects while keeping the key parties involved in the loop. The breaking news environment of my daily work flow has also sharpened my time management, organizational and problem solving skills. In addition to my skills as a line producer, I also write and produce long formatted content, field produce and edit.
I am an avid user of social media with a strong knowledge of social media trends. I pride myself in knowing which platforms should be used to effectively communicate with your audience. Being forced to communicate in 140 characters or less at times has also strengthened my attention to detail, grammar and proofreading skills. I have working knowledge of: Photoshop Microsoft Office, Final Cut Pro, Premier, Apple and Android devices, web and html coding. I have always worked a non-traditional schedule as a result my body is used to non-traditional hours! I am self-motivated, yet a team player (I plays nice with others).
Personally: I have no clue what I did before Twitter or Instagram. I'm fiercely competitive when it comes to playing Words with Friends. I'm one half of the Complaints & Compliments duo.
I am also a PROUD member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and a mentor with the Boys & Girls Club of America.
