I am a licensed psychotherapist with 15 years experience in providing clinical services and trauma informed care to children, adolescents and their families. I have additional training in experiential therapies such as Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, Yoga, and Biofeedback. I have gained experience in a variety of settings, including residential, day treatment, and in-home settings.
I especially enjoy my work with difficult adolescents and finding ways to help both the adolescent and his/her family navigate through this challenging and complex time of life. I have a passion for working with teenagers and supporting them in regulating their emotions, nurturing their self-esteem, developing respect for self and authority, and accomplishing their goals.
I encourage my clients to utilize their internal and external resources to promote healthy change and reach their potential. My training in mindfulness, yoga, aikido, and somatic counseling enable me to work in creative and individualized ways to enable clients to move through mental barriers and create a body-mind connection. Additionally, I may utilize the technique of Biofeedback if it is determined it can benefit treatment goals.
The technology of Biofeedback is useful in enhancing one’s awareness of previously unconscious physiological states (such as body temperature, rate of breathing, and muscle tension). This awareness then causes a corresponding emotional and behavioral change in the person receiving the feedback. This therapy is non-verbal and doesn’t rely on the story behind the issue to be effective, is useful for a variety of behavioral and mental health issues such as ADHD, depression and anxiety, and can be especially beneficial to clients who have experienced trauma.
