Dr Ailís Travers works with Initial Teacher Education students in the role of Academic Director for School Placement. She also lectures in the area of Religious Education (RE) in ATU.

Ailís taught RE, History, SPHE and CSPE at Post-Primary level before being seconded to work in Teacher CPD as a Team Leader with Junior Cycle for Teachers. Ailís was the team leader for RE, for SPHE and for Jewish Studies. Ailís also facilitated CPD for school leaders in the areas of assessment and wellbeing.

Ailís’ research has focused on curriculum design and the integration of digital technology in education.

Ailís has had the privilege of working with teachers and students in Honduras, India, Sierra Leone, South Africa and the USA.

She has experience working in educational publishing and was the conceptual designer and project manager for several interactive online learning platforms. Ailís is the author, co-author and editor of a number of textbooks for Religious Education and is a consultant for second-level textbook publishers.

Ailís’ experience in Initial Teacher Education (ITE) began as a guest lecturer in Mater Dei Institute of Education and UCD before spending eight years as a part-time lecturer on the PME programme in DCU. She has experience of school placement tutoring and mentoring for ITE students. Ailís is passionate about creativity in teaching and learning and was awarded the Association of Creativity and Arts in Education (ACAE) Creative Schools Award for fostering student creativity.
