Aisha Rimi

I am 21-year-old student, studying French and German at Queen Mary, University of London. Growing up in a bilingual home (I speak Hausa, a language spoken in Nigeria), I had an early exposure to foreign languages which I think sparked my interest in learning languages. From about the age of 7, I have been learning French. Along the way, I have picked up Italian, Japanese, German and Arabic.
My family and I have always been avid travellers, having driven across Europe plenty of times to countries including, France, Germany, Italy and Austria. I have just completed my third year abroad where I completed an internship for seven months at a photo shoot production company in Paris, and studied for a semester at the Freie Universität Berlin.

Throughout my university career, I've participated in many extra-curricular activities. During my first and second year, I was the sub-editor of my university's newspaper and wrote articles for it as well. I was elected Disabled Students Representative, a position I held during my second year, for Queen Mary's Student Union. I also juggled my studies with a part-time retail job on campus. This year, I have been elected the Promotions and Liaisons officer for the QM ACS (African & Caribbean Society).

I have held various leadership positions from a very young age, such as House Captain and Head Girl to Prefect and Form Mentor. As I approach my final year at university, I am looking towards careers that will allow me to use the number of skills I have developed during all my work experience, such as communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. I am also currently the social media manager for Ilmihouse, a social enterprise set up in Nigeria, targeted at self development and the development of the community. My involvement in this project has allowed me to hone my social media and marketing skills. Ilmihouse has also garnered my interest in the international development field, an area of work I am now looking into as a career.
