Ajay Sawant is a wildlife veterinarian and conservation communicator. He is best known for leading conservation initiatives across marine ecosystems, including mangrove restoration, coral conservation and wildlife health awareness programmes. His work bridges veterinary science, conservation storytelling and community-led environmental action, with a particular interest in conservation medicine and human-wildlife coexistence.
Ajay has worked with big cats, critically endangered birds, and wildlife health systems through veterinary training and field-based conservation work, exploring the intersection of disease ecology, conservation medicine, and habitat loss. He has contributed to conservation efforts ranging from mangrove plantation drives in Cameroon to advocacy and awareness work on the BBNJ High Seas Treaty in India.
An award-winning conservationist, Ajay serves as a High Seas Youth Ambassador and the youngest member of the UN Ocean Decade Strategic Communications Board. He has worked on projects with organisations including National Geographic Society, World Ocean Day and Bow Seat, using storytelling, artivism and science communication to engage people in conservation. Ajay is named to the Explorer Club 50 and aims to make conservation more accessible, urgent and grounded in lived realities.
