António J. R. Neves was born in Torres Novas, Portugal, in July 1979. He received the Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering degree from the University of Aveiro, Portugal, in 2002 and the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Aveiro, in 2007. Currently, he is an Invited Assistant Professor (Professor Auxiliar Convidado) at the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of the University of Aveiro, and a researcher at the Signal Processing Laboratory of the Institute of Electronics and Telematics Engineering of Aveiro - IEETA. He is also a member of the IEEE, European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP), Portuguese Robotic Society (SPR) and member of the Technical Committee on Image Processing of the International Association of Science and Technology for Development (IASTED). His main research interests are image and video coding (lossless coding, pre-processing techniques, images with special characteristics), bioinformatics (Microarray images and DNA coding) and robotics (computer vision and multi-agent robotics). Currently he is the team leader of the CAMBADA robotic soccer team.
