New Delhi, India.
I am a simple small town girl trying to make a place in this crazy world, staring with gleaming eyes as the mysteries of the universe manifest themselves in everyday life. My life has been a constant quest to learn everything that can be known, satiate my curiosity and fulfil my creative potential.
As a child I always thought engineers were like Gods. They understood how things worked and created things that never existed. Hence, on one fateful day in 1996, I decided that was who I wanted to be. The decision I took that day as a child turned out to be awesome as it led me to have one of the coolest jobs in the world. (Hi five, six year old me ! ) I now work for the Weapons and Electronic Systems Engineering Establishment of the Indian Navy. My job is to create engineering solutions onboard Naval battleships and submarines, saving the government millions of dollars and saving millions of lives.
"Unless it comes out of your soul like a rocket, unless being still would drive you to madness, or suicide or murder, don't do it." These lines from Charles Bukowski's 'So you want to be a writer?' accurately describe how I feel about writing and about life in general. Writing for me is my salvation. Recently I've started a blog :‘This That and Random Things ’ http://thisthatandrandomthings.blogspot.in and the appreciation I've received for it has been overwhelming.
Dance for me is poetry in motion. I am a trained ‘Kathak’ dancer, a classical Indian dance form. I have also learnt many Indian folk dance forms. Recently I have begun to swing to the tunes of street jazz. Nothing makes me happier than performing in front of cheering crowds.
Hindu values teach us the importance of charity, and according to me there is no better gift than the gift of education. This motivated me to volunteer at an Ngo called “Aashayein” (meaning Hope) , working for the education of children of construction workers.
Another part of me I can’t suppress is my thirst for thrill and adventure. It has led me to various trekking trips in the Himalayas, kayaking and river rafting.
One of my latest interests is baking. It’s an absolute delight to bake for family and friends.
