Akorede Zakariya

Akorede The bearer of good tidings. A General's Kin
Omobalogun Whose praise sweeetens the heart of even his enemies
O buyo sori ota-a baje The viled messenger who speaks from another world.
Ojo jumo ni fa Akorede gbe bo He is to be paid daily sacrifice. A man of honor amongst the mighty and honorable

Okunrin ban tu ban tu Bi eru ole. His glory so large they must be stolen.

Those are the words of an old Yoruba night watchman. He would sing to me every morning as I resisted my mother's attempt to take me to school. I would rather stay home with her, and listen to the songs she sings while she does her chores with my younger brother strapped to her back.

Seeing my brother grow as I pretend to teach him everything he would need to know was my life's mission.
The watchman is long gone, but is stories remain. Its 28 years now, and still, nothing describes me better than his praise chant. I still do not like going to school, I still want to sit beside my mother and hear her tell the same stories over and over.
My name is Akorede Zakariya, I'm from Lagos, Nigeria. My mother won the fight to have me get an education. I made it through the University of Lagos. I love good stories. I hope to write many of them. I wrote some at JWT Lagos and Noah's Ark..
My life's misson remains the same. To help my younger brothers be better than myself.
