Alamgir Islam Shanto: A Voice That Breathes Life into Poetry
Alamgir Islam Shanto stands out as one of the most promising young recitation artists in Bangladesh, having carved a significant niche in the world of spoken poetry since he began his journey in 2013. Over the years, Shanto has not only mastered the art of recitation but has also become a vital voice in preserving and promoting Bengali poetry through performance, media, and cultural platforms.
With 18 published recitation albums to his name, Shanto’s work captures the depth and diversity of Bengali literature. Some of his most notable albums include Feriwala, Dirghosthayi Shokshobha, Ekushey Kobita, Kobitar Prohor, Hridoyer Pongtimala, and Batashe Lasher Gondho. These works showcase his ability to evoke emotion and connect deeply with audiences, bringing each poem to life through voice modulation, rhythm, and passion.
Shanto is a regular face on Bangladeshi television, performing on renowned platforms such as GTV, where he recited Kazi Nazrul Islam’s poems on the program Amare Debona Bhulite, and on Channel 24, where he featured in the show Nazrul Kabya Ampara. Additionally, he frequently appears on Bangla Vision for special day-based recitation events. His contributions extend to Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar, where he also serves as a presenter.
His commitment and contribution to the field of recitation have been recognized through several prestigious awards. He received the Nazrul Sammanona in 2016, the Bidyapith Sammanona in 2017, and the Amader Golpokotha Sammanona Smarak in 2017. These accolades not only validate his artistic talents but also reflect the cultural impact of his work.
Shanto continues to nurture his craft under the mentorship of the legendary recitation artist Shimul Mostafa, and is actively engaged with Baikuntho Abritti Academy, a leading recitation training institute in Bangladesh. Furthermore, he served as the General Secretary of the cultural organization Shuddhoshor Kobita Moncho at Government Titumir College for the 2022–2024 term. He studied Bengali Literature at Government Titumir College, grounding his artistic expression in strong academic knowledge of the language and its literary heritage.
