My name is Alan Shorey. I’m a freshman at UGA: I am 18 and a taurus. I like to wear rings. They are the source of my power. I have 4: a mood ring from Asheville, a ring I found on the floor of a Goodwill in my hometown, a silver band from an antique store, and a souvenir ring that my mom ordered from a catalog in her twenties. She thought it looked cool, and I think it’s pretty cool too. When I wear it, I am reminded of her.

The rings are all very cheap, but hold a lot of personal value for me. They make me feel safe and represent a tangible part of my identity that can be worn on whichever fingers I chose that morning. They have been through a lot with me and have seen me through many states of mind. The mood ring is black a lot of the time because i drink lots of coffee and my hands turn cold. Beyond the sentiment, I also appreciate the aesthetic value the rings add to my person. For example, I Iike the way my hands look with rings when I smoke, or when I drink coffee with the rings on my fingers.

Although four now, I used to have five rings. I got one carved from agate from a woman named Fanny at a market in Soho during winter break. However, I lost this one at a recent concert in Athens. I hope someone finds it; it is somewhere on the floor of The Foundry.
