Research interests include geopolitics of media, communications and 21st century statecraft, as well as the governance of the British Overseas Territories. He was an accredited observer of the 2013 Falkland Islands referendum.

Current work explores the historical emergence and continuing power of No-man's Lands in the early 21st century.
