Albert believes citizen participation is key to stronger communities and social harmony, and has been actively involved in community affairs. For example, he was a Student Council Vice-President in high school, and he served on the Senate of Simon Fraser University for four consecutive terms, elected by students and later, through Convocation, by alumni and faculty, contributing across 12 committees and advancing successful policy initiatives and reforms. He also received the Optimist Club Scholarship, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for volunteering in governance and public relations in various organizations.

During his leisure time, Albert likes listening to music, reading books, playing badminton, hiking, and travelling. He enjoys learning new things, especially through travelling in exotic places. By age 35, Albert has visited over 50 countries, camped on all seven continents, and dipped in all five oceans, yet his travel wish list is still growing over the years. His most enjoyable memories include playing extreme sports in New Zealand, chasing wild animals in Southern and East Africa, island hopping in the Galapagos, and exploring and bivy camping in Antarctica.

Albert is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified General Accountant. He holds a Certificate in Liberal Arts, a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Political Science, and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with concentrations in Accounting, Finance, and Policy Analysis from Simon Fraser University.
