Alberto Serrano is a Matanzas style Rumbero and Bata drummer. Though considered one of the master drummers of the Afrocuban Folkloric scene in New York, he works in all styles of Latin music, jazz and house/dance music. He is an experienced live and session salsero, and has toured extensively with Hector Lavoe and Eddie Palmieri.

Alberto has recorded for many labels including: Fania, Montuno, Piranha, Zebralution, Allegro, Emusica, Brothers Vibe, Sound Of Music, Sound Evolution, Flying, Machinery, ADA, RED, Mercury, Island/Def Jam.

Alberto is additionally a drum craftsman, who apprenticed at Skin on Skin in the 1970s. He designs powerful but elegant instruments, from congas and Bongos to Batas, taking special orders from around the world. He also does structural repair, restoration and customization, enhancing, magnifying, balancing and perfecting sound through modifications. He was revered by his masters in the craft, and before one of his mentors passed away, he announced that he had selected Alberto to inherit his one of a kind drum-making tools. This is a special honor and homage to Alberto’s master craftsman status.

A believer in" drummer's honor" and giving back, as a worldview, he also accepts percussion instrument students based on a criterion that ensures it is worthwhile for both.

He is currently performing and writing with a new ensemble of rumberos in pre-production mode, scheduled to go into the studio in 2013 to record both new compositions and new interpretations of classicos.
