Aldo Swastia

film director, screenwriter, and Producer in Jakarta, Indonesia

Winaldo Artaraya Swastia is an Indonesian film director, screenwriter, and producer. He graduated cum laude from the Jakarta Institute of Art (IKJ) on a full scholarship. His thesis film, Angin, earned critical acclaim, receiving a Best Short Film nomination at the 2010 Festival Film Indonesia and screenings at both domestic and international film festivals. He is also an alumnus of Berlinale Talents Tokyo 2022.

Aldo began his career as an assistant director before making his directorial debut with two seasons ofBrata, a HOOQ/Maxstream original crime series, followed by Dunia Maya, a Vision+ original drama series. His feature film debut, Kadet 1947, which he directed and co-wrote, won Best Film and Best Directing at the 16th JAFF 2021, along with a Citra Award nomination at the 2022 FFI for Best Original Screenplay, alongside six other nominations. In 2024, he wrote the horror film Pernikahan Arwah: The Butterfly House. As a producer, Aldo produced Preman (2021), directed by Randolph Zaini, and Samsara, a cine-concert film by Garin Nugroho.

His work explores the intersection of personal memory, identity, and metaphysical longing, crafting character-driven narratives that are as emotionally raw as they are cinematically bold. He is currently developing his second feature, Penitence, as a writer-director, continuing to explore his signature blend of intimate storytelling and philosophical depth.
