Alec Gibboney
Student and Artist
Hello, my name is Alec Gibboney. I am a 21-year-old student at Delta College and am currently working on an associate in programming before possibly continuing classes or possibly transferring to a university with my credits. I am an adult living with Asperger's Syndrome (AD) and Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), having been diagnosed age of two. Asperger's, according to “Asperger’s Syndrome” by Darla Burke, is “A condition on the autism spectrum, with generally higher functioning. People with this condition may be socially awkward and have an all-absorbing interest in specific topics.”; whereas ADHD, described in “Everything You Need to Know About ADHD” by Traci Angel, is “a mental health disorder that can cause above-normal levels of hyperactive and impulsive behaviors.”. Despite these, I have managed to overcome these disorders and am continuing to work on developing my future; largely thanks to therapy and work my parents put into helping me learn to cope with my autism and ADHD.
While my Asperger's Syndrome (AD) and Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) don’t affect me much, I still face challenges because of my disorders. I struggle with loud noises and like sticking to schedules and can be repetitive in what I do/like because of my Asperger’s Syndrome. I am looking to pursue a career involving computers, rather it be programming, building, or designing them; as I have always had an obsession with computers and machines my whole life. Much of my free time is spent on the computer, rather it be playing video games or exploring the online world. My hobbies also include drawing, playing tabletop games (i.e., Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Battletech, etc.), customizing miniatures, or playing online video games with friends or other people online.
