DRON STUDIO
MANA CONTEMPORARY
SCULPTOR Alejandro Dron was born in Argentina in 1962 and lives and works in NY since 1996. He began to practice drawing, painting and sculpture at the age of 10 years old. During his following formative years he also studied architecture and precolumbian art. Later on his studies of Jewish mysticism connected him with the MADI art movement that proposed pure invention in the 40’s in Argentina. During 1995-1996 close to his founder, the artist Gyula Kosice, he studied its theory and works. Alejandro Dron developed a type of abstract sculpture that folds, connected with hinges. He works within the open frame of Jewish mysticism and Madi ideas. In 1996 he was awarded a grant from the Fulbright Commission-FNA Argentina and came to New York to study a MFA in Computer Art at School of Visual Arts. He has taught at SVA and ITP Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU. In 2003 was nominated for a Rockefeller grant. In 2006 he was awarded with the prestigious Adolph Gottlieb Grant in Sculpture. He showed his works nationally and internationally. Among those shows, the Madi restrospective at the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, Spain in 1996, where he also wrote the catalog. His works were reviewed by art magazines and newspapers as the NYtimes. He currently has several of his works permanently in display at The Kube Art Center / Ethan Cohen Gallery in Beacon, NY. Among his artistic activities he is also a cartoonist (Zohar / Amazon ) and a Kabbalah lecturer and teacher at the Mario Saban Cabala and Psychology School in Barcelona, Spain.
