Alejandro Skalany is a guitarist from Houston, TX. He graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree at Berklee College of Music. Alejandro has had the privilege to study with prestigious artists such as Dr. J.B. Dyas, Dr. Robert Morgan, Todd Coolman, John Wheatley, Mitch Seidman, Eddie Gomez, Ben Allison, Mike Moreno, Jason Moran, Andre Hayward, Corey King, Cory Cox, Warren Sneed, Stefon Harris, as well as other artists of merit. Alejandro has performed in HSPVA’s award winning big band and jazz combo, Houston’s regional jazz band, as well as with his own jazz quartet. His group has performed at the Port Arthur Jazz Festival, the New Orleans Crescent City Jazz Festival, as well as jazz events at Houston’s Discovery Green Park. Alejandro has also performed with Jason Moran as part of Jason’s MacArthur Grant concert at Discovery Green. In addition to jazz, Alejandro Skalany performs his own music in Houston folk rock band, Harts of Oak, which has performed extensively in Houston including the historic Cactus Records independent music store. Harts of Oak has released 3 EP's. Their latest, "The Old States" was released in early summer of 2011 and has gotten the band a nomination for "Best Folk Group" in the Houston Press Music Awards.
