Alessandro Siciliani
Artistic Director in Columbus, OH, US
Maestro Alessandro Siciliani is a Columbus, Ohio-based, conductor and composer who has led orchestras at classical music venues across the globe. Having immigrated to the United States from Italy, Alessandro Siciliani gained early renown with the New York City Opera and was singled out for his successful revival of Puccini’s “most underappreciated opera,” La Rondine. The New York Times commended this performance, noting that his command of Puccini’s operatic idiom was firm.
Maestro Siciliani subsequently had a debut with the Metropolitan Opera that centered on a revival of Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci and Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana. A New York Times review of that performance described the conductor as delivering crisp orchestral execution, while adding enlivening interpretive touches.
From 1992 to 2003, Maestro Siciliani held the position of music director at the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in Ohio, and he went on to serve as its conductor laureate. Currently, he focuses on piano composition and on guiding emerging artists as music director of Opera Project Columbus. Over the course of his career, he has also led ensembles from Hong Kong to Cologne, and has worked with the National Symphony in Washington, DC.
