Alex Simmons

New York City

For years I've has written (and in some cases also created) a number of juvenile mysteries under a variety of pseudonyms for many well-known publishers. I've penned educational documentaries and several stage plays, including Sherlock Holmes & the Hands of Othello, published in Black Thunder: An Anthology of Contemporary African American Drama, published by Signet/Mentor Books.

It's been my pleasure to write three movie novelizations for Disney and three biographies for Steck-Vaughn, including one on Denzel Washington. Then there were also numerous comic book stories for DC Comics, Archie Comics, and Graphic Classics, as well as my own original creations.

As a voiceover talent, I've been heard on a wide range of projects from O'Henry Bars, to podcasting financial information.

I've traveled globally as a guest speaker and teaching artist; developed and conducted creative writing workshops (prose, comics, journalism, and playwriting), as well as consulted on a number of creative arts programs, curricula for children, and professional development workshops for educators.

Currently, Simmons I am the founder of the annual Kids Comic Con, curator of the Color of Comics Exhibition, and the arts & education consultant for the Christopher Barron Live Life Foundation. I've also had the honor of serving on the board of the New York State Alliance for Arts and Education for five years; and been affiliated with the Museum of Comic & Cartoon Art.

As you can tell, I am committed to enriching the creative and acemic lives of young people. Because if they cannot envision themselves succeeding in the future, they'll have little use what what we're trying to teach them in the present.
