Alexis Assadi
Entrepreneur and Investor in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Hey, I'm Alexis. I provide financing to entrepreneurs and real estate operators across Canada. I'm the CEO of a company called Pacific Income and I host a weekly podcast, Income Investing. Each Wednesday, we explore various income producing assets, such as REITs, dividend stocks, rental properties, p2p lending and more.
As an investor, I focus on generating monthly cash flow. I like that I can use the dividends to supplement my regular earnings, which is invaluable to an entrepreneur. Further, a lot of these assets can also appreciate in value, thus providing the best of both worlds.
Given the nature of my business, the bulk of my portfolio today is invested in mortgage loans. I mainly lend to "small" entrepreneurs (seeking under $250,000) who are often overlooked by traditional lenders, like banks. Sometimes, a business owner's situation doesn't fit within the traditional "box" that large financiers require. Other times, they just need the money faster than a bank can provide.
Can you imagine walking into a bank to request a $100,000 loan so that you can purchase a property in 4 days? It's probably not going to happen!
I try to compete against other lenders by moving faster and being more creative, without sacrificing research and care. One of the ways that I manage risk is to only work with borrowers who seek growth capital. For instance, they may want to buy a piece of real estate, hire employees, expand their advertising budget or purchase inventory, etc. I don't finance companies that need to be rescued or that are desperate for cash.
Regardless of one's investing strategy, I believe that there's nothing more important than performing deep due diligence. That's what I try to provide on my podcast. I concentrate on producing the facts on revenue producing investments, rather than on giving an opinion.
I was born in Switzerland and moved around quite a bit growing up. I lived in Thailand, Hong Kong and Australia before my family settled in Canada. After university (I studied political science at UBC) I briefly moved to New York to work for my uncles.
I spend a lot of time reading about politics, international relations and the law. I'm also a whiskey enthusiast and enjoy everything from scotch, bourbon, rye, Japanese, Australian, Indian, Irish and French makes. A lot of my evenings are spent with a glass of whiskey while reading alongside my dog.
I'm also a connoisseur of internet memes and fail videos. Without them, what's the point of being online?
