My name is Alexis. I'm forever a Floridian, having lived in South Florida my whole life. Currently, I attend Florida Atlantic University's Honors program in Jupiter, Florida. Since I was in the 7th grade, I knew I wanted to pursue molecular biology and, consequently, I am now on the Pre-Med track, aspiring for a career in medical genetics. I spend my time reading ( anything and everything from Victorian Gothic novels to modern love-stories), enjoying the Florida sun, exercising( my new found love is running), going to cheap rock concerts, and watchinig musicals on repeat.
For the first time ever, I am volunteering for a medical mission trip to Honduras this may. This chance to leave my mark on this country by improving the lives of people, who's idea of luxury is simply a part of our everyday life, will reward me with an unparalelled humbling and medical experience. Global Medical Brigades allows volunteers, like me, to shadow local and foreign health professionals and provide consultations and medications to patients in rural communities. In months leading up to this trip, we will be taught and trained in basic medical and dental procedures, knowledge of diseases and the pharmaceuticals that fight them, and even gain experience building houses with Habitat For Humanity. This chance to leave my mark on this country by improving the lives of people, who's idea of luxury is simply a part of our everyday life, will reward me with an unparalelled humbling and medical experience. But of course, none of this is possible without the necessary funds. I have attended multiple fundraisers in addition to personally donating some of my own money. To anyone that donates to this fund, I want you to know that in the end, this money does not just send myself to a mission trip- you are providing someone in another country with a chance to live, not just to survive. You are also contributing to my dream to help people on a larger scale, allowing me to do what I love to do and granting me with a brighter medical future.
