I'm Alex Knepper. I'm a 24-year-old aspiring public intellectual. From a very young age, I have been in love with politics, philosophy, and pop culture.
I am currently studying at the Graduate Institute at St. John's College - Annapolis, and hold a B.A. in Political Science from American University. I am gay, a pantheist of sorts, and a political Independent (former Republican).
I currently blog off and on for the Huffington Post and Race42016.com. I have also written for the Republican Reason Caucus blog, and have contributed to a number of websites across the political spectrum, including LibertyNews.com, the Norwegian Human Rights Service, and FrumForum.com. I have been featured by a number of national outlets, including the New York Times and NPR. I am very active on Facebook; less so on Twitter. I'm also on LinkedIn.
I promote a new wave of modern conservatism characterized by moderation, in the ancient sense of the term: the prudent balancing of the tensions inherent in any society. Generally speaking, I stand for social tolerance, fiscal prudence, and global American leadership.
Thinkers who have influenced me include Plato, Arthur Schopenhauer, Edmund Burke, Leo Strauss, Camille Paglia, and Robert Kagan.
I lead a pretty relaxed personal life. I love music -- both listening to it and creating it. My favorite genres are pop, symphonic metal, and trance. (However, I'm the world's biggest Britney Spears fan..!) I have an operatic baritone voice and have performed publicly many times. Most importantly, I am always trying to learn from experience, treat others with kindness, and become more at peace with the world and my place in it.
