Since January 2014, I’ve worked at the Institute for Southern Studies, where I research and write about money in politics, education reform, social justice and more for our online magazine, Facing South. I also manage the content of FollowNCMoney.org, the only database of state political spending in North Carolina. Stories of mine have been republished at The American Prospect and BillMoyers.com. As a freelance journalist, I’ve written for Vocativ and The Brooklyn Rail, and I do medical writing for Yale University.
I’m also an internationally performed composer of instrumental music and a producer and DJ. I earned my PhD in music composition from Duke University and have received international research fellowships for my academic work.
