His head may be down, but he's certainly not afraid. That ring is our stage and in my mind it is built for just us two. We make our way through course after course, working in tandem and trusting our skills. My name is Alex Maracic, and that gray jumping horse is Lasti. He is my horse, my show partner, and my friend.
It's hard to put my finger on what makes our bond so different, but I know that Lasti isn't like other horses. Sure he is poised, perfectly polished, and groomed, but there is so much more to him than his stature. After all, I've been around barns, stables, and shows my whole life- and he's more than just a champion. We've come to understand so much about each other. He knows I like to win and that even at my best, I am always a little bit stubborn. I understand his affinity for treats and his refusal to turn down a water jump. He has taught me patience and how to trust in my talents as an athlete. He's helped me get to UGA and to earn my spot on the equestrian team. Through the good and the bad, the wins and the falls, Lasti has shown me that a love for what you do and who you do it with is just as important as the place in which you finish. This sport is a business I will want to be in forever and it is all because of Lasti.
