Alice McGrath

I have been working in the arts and cultural sector for most of my career (circa 20 years) and have gained a broad range of experience working in a range of diverse roles including: Creative Development Director at Imaginate (2002 – 2011), Director of Creative Development, Participation and Research at macrobert arts centre (2011 – 2015) and Executive Producer at Scottish Dance Theatre (2014-2015). I have recently set up my own company Red Bridge Arts to facilitate and develop arts and creative projects with the aim of nourishing creativity.

Read more about me and my practice on the Who, What, Why page on the Red Bridge Arts site.

My work with individual artists includes collaborating, supporting and producing theatre, dance and participatory arts projects. My work has a particular focus on activity for young people, socially engaged work and dance.

I manage, facilitate and collaborate on events including curated arts programmes, open space events, workshops, organisational change workshops, talks and masterclasses. Events in 2015 include with ArtWorks Scotland, Festival Fringe, Sited, Magnetic North’s Rough Mix and Janice Parker Projects.

My own creative practice includes exploring creative nourishment. I write and fantasise about what the process and outcomes of this may be. I am the recipient of a Creative Scotland Artists Bursary, awarded in December 2014 to develop a short story for children about loss.

My first child Cormac was born in 1998, followed by Niamh in 2004. Their entrance into the world changed my life completely. Being a mother is a hugely important part of my work. My children are a constant influence on my choices; they help me keep things realistic and I like to recognise them for that. I consult them as dramaturgs, as collaborators for education activity and as masters of all things digital, and they keep me in touch with what's going on in the world of music.
