Ali C. Razi

For his contributions to American society, Iranian-American businessman Ali Razi received a 2011 Ellis Island Medal of Honor. The award acknowledges his professional success as a homebuilder in Southern California and Arizona. Mr. Razi's business interests in Phoenix operate under the Grosvenor Group of Companies, which he cofounded in 1994. A cofounder in 1984 and principal member of The Stratham Group in Irvine, California, Ali Razi leads the development efforts of the award-winning construction and contracting company.

Now totaling over 10,000 single-family homes and apartment units in California, Ali Razi increased the scope of his development projects as The Stratham Group grew. Over the past eight years, he acquired and developed more than 20 residential communities. Mr. Razi has received recognition from the industry, including the 2006 Builder of the Year award from the Building Industry Association of Southern California. In Phoenix, Arizona, his business has developed commercial projects and thousands of residential properties.

Ali Razi further works for the betterment of his community as a member of the Board of Governors of the California State University Foundation. As part of his commitment to the student body, he recently instituted and personally funded an annual scholarship, granted to the top-scoring recipient of the William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees' Award for Outstanding Achievement. In honor of his contribution, the Board of Governors designated the winner of the scholarship the Trustee Emeritus Ali C. Razi Scholar. Mr. Razi is Chair of the scholarship's Selection Committee.

Prior to assuming his duties with the CSU Foundation, he functioned as a member of the Board of Trustees of the California State University system for several years. As part of his responsibilities, he chaired the Audit, Institutional Advancement, and Campus Planning, Buildings, and Grounds committees. Ali Razi continues to serve the Board in the capacity of Trustee Emeritus.
