Teacher in Vancouver Island, BC

Hey, I’m Ali. I am a Special Education Coordinator, working at a secondary school in a remote community just off of Vancouver Island.

I completed my BEd in secondary education with a focus on exceptional learners. I began as a math and geography teacher in Ontario, hoping to make the move to special education one day. I decided to move to BC at the start of the pandemic and came across a special education opening. I jumped on the opportunity and have not looked back since. I am part of a fantastic admin team that has made the transition seamless. I am looking forward to the Level B Assessment course and taking what I learn back to my team and school.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time outdoors and exploring all of the hiking trails in my area. I am also an amateur photographer and working towards building my portfolio in my downtime. I have always loved travelling and was able to do some travelling this past summer here on the West Coast. But, I am hoping to get back to some international travelling very soon.

Since returning from a teaching practicum in Cusco, Peru, I have had a slight obsession with llamas and alpacas. My friend “adopted” Mana the Llama as a gift to me, and I finally had the chance to go and meet her this summer at The Llama Sanctuary in Chase.
